PRIM Ballers 2023 Basketball Tournament

PRIM Ballers 2023 Basketball Tournament!

Last Sunday, 30th July, BPT with support from Nike hosted the PRIM Ballers Queer Black basketball tournament, delivered by PRIM Black. The event was designed to “celebrate and prioritise womxn, trans & non-binary people” with plenty of entertainment for all throughout the day.

The main event was the 4×4 basketball tournament, with teams needing at least one player who identifies as queer in order to be eligible. There was an amazing prize on the line, with £1000 up for grabs for the winning team!

All participants put on a fantastic display, but one team stood out amongst the competition, and to nobody’s surprise, were crowned worthy victors. Congratulations team Two Twos!

Alongside the sporting festivities, everyone was treated to PRIM x Nike merch, music by our favourite DJs, tasty food, and fun vibes and even the bad weather couldn’t ruin the great atmosphere!

Programmes & Partnerships Manager Diana Voynova was suitably inspired, noting ‘It was great to host the PRIM Ballers 2023 basketball tournament at the Regal. The day was a great success with a lot of positivity and good basketball.

As an organisation, we are always open to similar events as a welcoming and inclusive site for everyone. Massive congratulations to our friends from PRIM Black and also to the winners, Two Twos, who dominated the day showcasing incredible talent!’

Basketball Development Officer Marvin Ambrosius added, ‘It was so great to witness such an amazing event with some competitive games and you could feel the positive vibes and energy in the room.’

Grace Samba-Bandza from PRIM Black was also delighted with the event and added, ‘We hosted our second Queer Basketball Tournament partnering with Nike to bring our community together outside of the typical party environment. The players and spectators also got to experience a game in the most authentic way possible which was one of our goals. Hosting the tournament at the Regal was the perfect environment, from the immaculate court and facilities to the supportive staff who helped us run everything smoothly. We can’t wait to do it again!’
