All community programmes at The Black Prince Trust Community Hub, whether delivered by The Black Prince Trust directly or by our partners, are aligned to one or more of our Social Outcomes:
Social Impact
- Participation – openly accessible opportunities for everyone in our local community and beyond to participate in sport and physical activity
- Equality, Diversity and Inclusion – programmes that are designed to engage marginalised communities and specific groups who typically experience barriers that make it harder to participate in sport and physical activity
- Health and Wellbeing – programmes that are designed to help support people living with physical and/or mental health challenges, using sport and physical activity to positively impact their lives; and support to tackle food poverty.
- Education, Training and Lifelong Learning – programmes that offer mentoring and personal development opportunities as well as opportunities to achieve qualifications and work towards employment.
Not all partners will deliver across all Social Outcomes, but every openly accessible community programme that people can book on to will deliver Social Outcomes aligned to at least one of these areas. Some programmes may deliver against more than one Social Outcome and some partners may deliver multiple programmes aligned to different outcomes.
Together, BPT and its partners aim to provide a wide range of activities for all ages and for different abilities to provide opportunities for everyone in our community.
Participants at BPT programmes are required to register with Upshot, enabling BPT to properly understand and analyse the participants we reach and ensure the Trust and its partners deliver effectively against the agreed Social Outcomes. Where possible, partners use this system and/or share data for us to analyse, as below, to support this understanding. The vast majority of delivery takes place on site, though we do run classes for our Seniors Programme at other sites across Lambeth including Brixton and Streatham.
Black Prince Trust – 2023
Community programmes are delivered by BPT and a range of partners across multiple different sports and physical activities. Some partners utilise our monitoring system or can share data in a way that is compatible for analysis, while for some who utilise different monitoring systems this is not feasible. The following data therefore is not comprehensive but represents a subset of all community provision, reflecting around 60% of all community attendances in 2024 excluding food provision.

Our Community
To best understand who we engage through our free and low-cost community provision, we have focussed on analysing regular participants, defined here as those who have attended 3 or more sessions. This helps us to consider how engagement reflects the local community and to identify any groups who we are not engaging well, providing insights to improve and diversify our reach as we aim to provide enjoyable and accessible opportunities for everyone in our community to take part in sport and physical activity.

Breaking down barriers
At BPT we aim to deliver accessible, inclusive and impactful programmes, using sport and physical activity to deliver positive social
outcomes. Sport England Active Lives data shows that 36.6% of adults and 53% of children and young people do not meet recommended
activity levels. The data shows that:
- Black and Asian people are less likely to be active than others
- people living in the most deprived places (IMD 1-3) are less likely to be active
Our programmes are designed to engage specific groups who typically experience barriers that make it harder to participate in sport and
physical activity. The below graphs demonstrate that we are bringing opportunity to those who need it most.
