March 21st saw the inaugural London Sport Awards, with BPT represented both for our partnership with Nike and Jordan and for our PASIO Seniors programme.
Decked out in the black tie and trainers’ dress code, BPT staff and representatives from our key funders – Nicole Manugas from Jordan and Sandra Jones from City Bridge Foundation – took an evening off from sports gear and dressed up for what would be an exceptional evening, showcasing the best of the best at key categories from across London.
Having nominated Nike & Jordan, we were extremely happy to be showcased as a key partner in their community delivery when they were announced as winners of the Business Contribution Award, the first of the evening, ahead of worthy nominees Decathlon and Stay Belvedere Hotels.
There were over 400 nominations across 10 categories and to be shortlisted is such a huge achievement itself with only 3 per category. Our Seniors Programme – known as PASIO – was recognised as a runner-up in the Health and Wellbeing Award, which was picked up on the night by Active Minds in Croydon. We are extremely honoured to be nominated and shortlisted for this award and recognised for the phenomenal impact that our Seniors progamme has on older members of our community on a daily basis, made possible by our funders City Bridge Foundation and our hard-working staff.
Giles Shilson, City Bridge Foundation Chairman:
“We’re proud to have been able to support Black Prince Trust’s PASIO project. It has had a powerful impact in empowering older people in Lambeth to boost their physical and mental health by coming together to get active and to enjoy the benefits of social interaction.”
BPT’s Health and Wellbeing Project Lead Beverley de Valmency:
“We were delighted London Sport recognised and short-listed our Seniors Programme at such a prestigious event. Comprising over 16 weekly sessions and a diverse community of approaching 500 members from right across Lambeth; in the last three years this has grown into something incredibly special. Many thanks go to City Bridge Foundation for the 5-year funding, without which none of this would be possible. Keep moving, and don’t let the armchair get you!”
BPT CEO Richard Joyce:
“Nike and Jordan have for years been hugely valuable partners to BPT. We were delighted to see them scoop the award on the night, recognising their profound contribution and impact on basketball in the community at The Black Prince Trust Community Hub. We look forward to building on this success and working together to deliver ever greater social outcomes for our community in partnershipwith Nike & Jordan.”
