The atmosphere at Black Prince Trust was nothing short of electric as we hosted an unforgettable 1v1 tournament celebrating 40 years of Jordan Brand greatness.
From the first tip-off to the final buzzer, the energy was palpable, with incredible talent on display and a community coming together to honour both the legacy of an iconic brand and the spirit of sport.
The event drew in not only our regular community members but also many first-time visitors, all of whom were captivated by the competitive games and vibrant atmosphere. The 1v1 matchups were intense, fast-paced, and thrilling to watch. In the end, only two champions could emerge:
🏀 Louisa Gibbins took home the title in the female category
🏀 Oskar Striuga was crowned champion in the male category
Both winners demonstrated exceptional skill, determination, and sportsmanship, earning their well-deserved spots as the champions of the Jordan 40 Years of Greatness 1v1 Tournament held at the iconic Regal.
The event was made even more special with an outstanding performance by Leo Stay Trill, who brought the house down with his hit track “Pink Lemonade.” His performance added a vibrant musical element to the day, keeping the energy high and the crowd engaged.
However, the day wasn’t only about competition and celebration. A heartfelt tribute was held in memory of Idryck Wilkinson and members of the Essex Rebels basketball team, Anthony Hibbert, Daljang Wol, Makyle Bayley, and Eva Darold-Tchikaya, victims of a tragic car accident. In their honour, the Jordan team hung special basketball jerseys, serving as a touching reminder of the lives lost but never forgotten.
This event was more than just basketball; it was a powerful reminder of the strength of community, the healing power of sport, and the importance of honouring those who are no longer with us.
At Black Prince Trust, we remain committed to providing opportunities for our community to come together, not only through basketball but also through various programmes including football, boxing, and multi-sports. Our mission is to build a space where sport empowers, unites, and uplifts everyone who walks through our doors.
Here’s to 40 years of Jordan Brand greatness—and many more moments of inspiration, connection, and achievement at Black Prince Trust.
