BPT October Half Term is a Hit

6th November 2024

Last week (28th Oct – 1st Nov) saw another of our successful holiday camps, hosting the largest cohort of young people onsite we have had at any of our camps this year, a lot of regular faces and lots of new ones. We were fortunate to receive support from CLS Holdings whose kind donation helped to fund the October half term camp. Their donation allowed us to provide not only free sports activity but also enabled us to feed every child a free hot or cold meal for the entire week. We welcomed their staff to the site to support in sessions, sports and workshops, and support the distribution of goody bags from Amazon and Hello Fresh, both donations stemming from our Felix Food Distribution.

Our Morning sessions were delivered by Quadrant Performance Academy coaches Wesley and Ange, who once again ran fun and engaging activities for all ages and abilities, they followed in the afternoons with football on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and support with supervision of our lunches. Tuesday and Thursday afternoons consisted of basketball coaching from our BPT coaches Jayson and Jermaine, following on from two successful lunchtime workshops.

Tuesday saw the return of our NBA workshops where our Basketball Development Officer, Marvin, delivered a creative session on jersey design, where the young people were tasked to create a new NBA jersey, with NBA prizes on the line. BLAM UK (Black Learning Achievement and Mental Health) delivered another fantastic Black History workshop, looking at he significance of Michael Jordan and the Jordan Brand on the history of trainers and basketball.

Free lunches were provided daily with our onsite partners and community kitchen Share Community delivering hot meals Monday, Wednesday and Friday and our Health and Wellbeing Lead Bev putting together balanced cold lunches on the Tuesday and Thursday.

The young people were gifted with bags put together by Amazon staff, that consisted of snacks, pasta, fruit and tinned vegetables, alongside daily distributions of Hello Fresh bags that were kindly donated to us through our partners at the Felix Project.

We couldn’t have had a better week here onsite and a huge thank you to all who attended sessions, our coaches and volunteers and partners who made the week the success it was.

‘The October half-term camp was a huge success. The kids were fully engaged throughout the entire week, making new friends and enjoying the activities. They were consistently challenged but rose to the occasion, overcoming obstacles by working together as a team. It was also fantastic to have the CLS volunteers involved, as they played an invaluable role in supporting the young participants and assisting the coaching team. Their energy and enthusiasm contributed to a positive and collaborative atmosphere, making the week even more rewarding for everyone involved.’
