18/9/24
Over the 24 days of summer BPT once again hosted our ever popular and growing holiday camps. With financial support from Lambeth Council through the Holiday Activity and Food Programme (HAF) we were able to successfully run 4 hours of activity, lunches and workshops across all 24 days for free for the local community. Our core delivery partners Quadrant Performance Academy (QPA) were on board every day to coach and support our young people, covering all morning sessions, lunch and afternoon Football. Kisha from Criss Cross came on board to deliver a fantastic athletics session whilst Tyrelle, Jermaine and Jayson coached our Basketball session.
Taking advantage of the summer Olympics taking place in Paris we wanted to ensure we could offer a mixed of Olympic sports whilst giving the young people the chance to watch GB’s best during lunch time activities. Resources from ‘Path to Paris’ steered some of the lunch time discussions where we encouraged young people to talk about what sports they enjoyed and what sports they have never seen or heard of before.
Over the first two weeks the young people took part in a variety of different sports during our morning multisport session, including Tennis, Athletics, Cycling and Futsal as well as their usual afternoon offer of Basketball or Football. We were also fortunate to have Up Cycle London come on board to take our kids through some cycling proficiency as well as workshops on bike maintenance. Big Kidz joined us once again for a flag football session towards the end of the holidays.
Our lunch time activities saw workshops ran by BLAM on Black History, and understanding and respecting yours and others cultures, QPA delivered workshops on healthy eating supported by balanced lunches provided by BPT staff members Leanne and Beverly.
The young people all left with a smile, a HAF water bottle and a great experience;
‘They absolutely loved the holiday camp, particularly the coaches who were all engaging and extremely attentive.’
‘Yes they had fun and was so happy about gift given to them to encourage them for hard work’
‘Yes working all together and the staff are kind’
We host holiday camps over each half term and are looking forward to the next in October.
