BPT 2023 October Half Term

During the 2023 October Half Term, Black Prince Trust delivered a week-long programme to local residents between the ages of 8 and 14. From Monday 23rd to Friday 27th October ten sessions were delivered comprising multisports, basketball, football and athletics.

In addition to the sporting activities, on Wednesday 25th October, the young campers enjoyed the first ever NBA in the classroom workshop, delivered at BPT in collaboration with NBA Europe.

The NBA Classroom initiative, which is a bank of downloadable, flexible, curriculum-linked teaching resources to help students aged 11–16 to be more active, helps build positive mental attitude, develop financial confidence, and skills employers value, through a range of NBA-inspired challenges.

The focus of the workshop was careers and innovation where young people were able to learn more about designing their own merchandise and learning how to brand and sell their product to the direct consumer.

BPT’s Basketball Development Officer Marvin Ambrosius was incredibly enthused by the session, noting “I was blown away by the children’s enthusiasm and focus during our first ever NBA classroom, and I can’t wait to deliver more sessions for the community”.

Marvin was joined by BLaw Training Coach and Mentor Benji Lawmann, who was similarly positive, adding “it was an amazing, exhilarating and memorable experience teaching kids about the many pathways into the NBA. I was very taken back by the creativity and innovation displayed by the kids and I’m already looking forward to the next one!”

2023 October Half Term marked another record-setting programme for BPT. Across the week, 308 attendances were recorded averaging an unprecedented 31 attendances per session. 77 unique participants attended and enjoyed the 20-hour October Half Term programme, taking part in healthy physical activity and having fun with friends.
