Black Prince Trust Delivers Another Successful Summer of Camps Through Lambeth HAF Scheme

2nd September

The Black Prince Trust (BPT) has delivered another summer of high-quality youth provision, running free holiday camps as part of the Lambeth Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Scheme.
Across the summer holidays, children and young people aged 8–14 took part in a variety of activities that combined sport, learning and wellbeing. Our HAF activity offered a packed schedule of dodgeball, rounders, playground games and team challenges, while afternoons included football or basketball. Alongside this, we ran 2 weeks of Basketball specific camps with expert coaching and planning from Louis and the team at Let’s Get Active (LGA). Together, these programmes ensured that children had access to safe, engaging and inclusive opportunities throughout the summer.
These camps were delivered with the support of BPT’s valued coaching partners. Special thanks go to basketball coaches Yvette, Jayson and Sade for their energy and expertise, as well as the Quadrant Performance Academy coaches and LGA coaches, who worked tirelessly to ensure every session was inclusive, engaging and developmental.
As part of the HAF Scheme, all participants received a free healthy lunch each day. Meals were freshly prepared onsite by the BPT Health and Wellbeing Team alongside Share Community Kitchen, ensuring young people were fuelled and ready to enjoy their activities.
Positive Feedback from Families
Feedback from parents and guardians highlighted the success of the programme. On average, families rated:
  • Booking process: 9 out of 10
  • On-the-day registration: 9 out of 10
  • Drop-off and pick-up process: 9 out of 10
  • Overall satisfaction: 5 out of 5
  • Likelihood to recommend: almost every respondent said they would strongly recommend the camps
Parents praised the coaching team with comments such as “Great coaching,” “They made the children feel safe,” and “Very helpful.” One parent shared: “My son felt safe at BPT,” while another added: “The programme should consider extending to six weeks because it’s been such a valuable experience.”
Lunch provision also received positive reviews, “Delicious is what my son said. He was so surprised that it was tasty and proper cooked food.”
Programmes and Partnerships Manager Kaity Hall said:
“We are proud to have once again played a key role in supporting Lambeth’s young people over the summer. The HAF Scheme is so important to families who are in need of child support and safe places over the holidays that also provides nutritious meals for free, and we are grateful to Lambeth Council and HAF team for continuing to choose us to deliver.  These camps not only gave children the chance to stay active and try new things, but also provided a safe, supportive environment where they could connect with peers, coaches, and the wider community.”
The success of this year’s programme continues to highlight the importance of partnerships and community-driven initiatives in creating positive, lasting opportunities for young people.
