Black Prince Trust is pleased to unveil newly upgraded changing facilities for women and girls at our Community Hub in Lambeth, creating a safer, more welcoming and inclusive environment for current and future participants.
The improvements were delivered through a successful partnership project with Volunteer It Yourself (VIY), supporting our ongoing commitment to removing barriers to participation and ensuring that everyone feels welcome at Black Prince Trust.
Investing in Inclusive Community Sport
As demand for women’s and girls’ sport continues to grow, having facilities that meet the needs of participants is essential. The project focused on reconfiguring and modernising the female changing areas, creating separate spaces that offer greater privacy, comfort and accessibility. Works included the installation of new partition walls, separate access points, upgraded doors and full redecoration to create a clean and modern environment.
These improvements will benefit the many women and girls already engaging with activities at Black Prince Trust while helping us expand opportunities for new participants.
Creating Opportunities for Young People
The project also delivered significant benefits beyond the physical transformation of the site. Through the partnership with VIY, 17 young people took part in the refurbishment works, gaining hands-on construction experience and industry-recognised qualifications. Fifteen participants achieved Entry Level 3 City & Guilds accreditations in Health & Safety in the Workplace and Introducing Site Carpentry Skills.
The experience helped participants develop practical skills, confidence and employability. Survey feedback showed that all participants felt more confident about finding employment in the future, while every participant reported that taking part had positively increased their hopes and aspirations.
Strong Partnerships Deliver Lasting Impact
The project was made possible through collaboration between Black Prince Trust, Volunteer It Yourself and supporting volunteers from Barclays and Wates, whose contributions helped bring the transformation to life.
At Black Prince Trust, partnerships play a vital role in helping us create opportunities for our community, improve our facilities and expand the range of programmes we can offer. This project is a fantastic example of how organisations can work together to deliver meaningful and lasting impact.
Looking Ahead
The completed facilities are now ready to support the growing number of women and girls accessing sport and physical activity at Black Prince Trust. As we continue to develop new programmes and partnerships, these upgraded spaces will help ensure every participant feels welcome, supported and able to thrive.
