Don Davis Boxing Academy start the year with huge success!

Don Davis have begun 2024 in fantastic form, overseeing four different London champions, alongside a female national champion and some fantastic stories of beginners competing in their first ever bouts. Our resident boxing club continue to do outstanding work, packing out the boxing gym

In the London Youth Championships, Yosef Gebrehiwet (17) beat a previous two time national champion to claim a stunning win. Yosef lives on the doorstep of the Black Prince Trust site and has been training tirelessly in our boxing gym each week.

In the Intermediate London Championships, three adult fighters were also successful in their category.  Joachim Johnson (20), Amo Singh (23) and Dylan Oke (24) all put in tremendous performances to claim their titles. This coming month, all three will be competing in the Elite Senior Level Championships, where Don Davis are looking to make history and be the first ever London club to have 3 elite London Champions in the same season.

All four of these London Champions continue to train hard and each of them have the potential and aspiration to try and compete for Team GB at the Olympics in the future.

Meanwhile, Lucia Pinto Brown (18) has been leading the way for female boxing at Black Prince Trust, with some amazing achievements over the last few months. Last year, she was crowned as National Female Youth Development Champion, whilst also winning the Women’s Winter Box Cup back in December. This year is set to be another exciting year for her and we look forward to following her progress.

Don Davis have been doing fantastic work across all levels, and this has been epitomised by Davi Martins Arantes (13), who has made some remarkable strides over the past year. In the last nine months in which Davi has been training with us, he’s made considerable progress. Despite suffering from cystic fibrosis, he’s established himself as one of the hardest workers and most committed boxers in the gym at Black Prince Trust. Boxing has also helped him significantly increase his lung capacity, seriously improving his health and well-being. Last month, Davi competed in his first skills bout and fought incredibly well, making a brilliant start to his boxing career.

These are just a few recent achievements from Don Davis, alongside their wide array of fighters who have been successfully competing across boxing circuit in and around London over the last few months.

All this success is built on what was a magnificent 2023 for Don Davis, where they oversaw more than 5000 attendances, with 511 unique users. The rest of 2024 will continue to be an exciting one for the boxing academy, where they will enter 12 fighters in the England Boxing Development Championships later this year.

A massive thank you to Richard and his team of dedicated coaches, who continue to make Don Davis one of the most rapidly developing boxing clubs, emerging as undoubtedly one of the best gyms in London.
