Heir 2 Series Jordan Launch with Sneaker Sisterhood and BPT
On Sunday the 22nd of February the Black Prince Trust hosted the launch of the new Jordan Heir 2 Series designed by women for women. The day brought together over 40 female ballers and influencers from across the BPT community and London wide SLB, NBL division players, with an aim to support and uplift the female basketball community.
The day was hosted by Giulia and the team from Sneaker Sisterhood (SSH) with guest speakers The Blackgirl Ref Gabbie, London Lions Head Coach Kyla Nelson and former Professional Player, now Presenter Azania Stewart. The women we greeted to a Jordan gift bag consisting of kit for the day including a new pair of the Jordan Heir 2 series shoes.
The first part of the day consisted of ‘The Lockerroom’ a series of mini workshops getting to the heart of women’s basketball, the successes, the challenges and the opportunities and how the Jordan team, BPT and SSH can support to break these barriers and bring these opportunities to life. The women had the opportunity to get their hair braided, nails done and professional photo’s whilst discussing the importance of empowering women basketballers in London and wider.
The on-court session gave the players the opportunity to gain insight and coaching from Kyla Nelson whilst enabling the BPT Community to mix in with some of the best players across London. The session was a huge celebration of what basketball does, brings communities together, ignites new friendships and supports the growing empowerment in women’s sport. The day ended off with an opportunity to socialise with food courtesy of Wing Stop.
The learning gained form these opportunities is vital to the continued movement in bridging the gaps between the women’s and men’s game and offers BPT the opportunity to gain insight into how we can continue to support this growth. Our partnership with Jordan allows us to continue to push these barriers and boundaries and we are proud to be able to continue to offer these opportunities to our community.
‘The event was a powerful statement to all women have brought to the game of basketball. Being able to have the opportunity of growing a community which challenged me competitively, mentally and physically was a pleasure! I truly hope these events continue’ – Participant Yvette
‘The event was really wholesome, it was a great safe space for women to enjoy themselves and really express their thoughts and feeling about the current UK basketball scene. Was lovely to be included and gifted with Jordan gear, I am very grateful.’ – Participant Sade
‘The event was a mix of conversations about women’s basketball in London, a nail bar and braiding station, the chance to meet several influential women with Basketball England, and of course – the kit! I came home with shoes, shorts, hoodie, and more. Most of all I left with a renewed enthusiasm to try to do my part to improve the experience for women who want to play basketball here. Yesterday’s event was a reminder of the joy of the sport, and a proper introduction to the amazing community I am only just discovering. I can’t wait for what’s next’ – Participant Jennie
