On the 12th-16th February the Black Prince Trust collaborated with partners Quadrant Performance Academy (QPA) and Blaw Basketball in setting up a February Half-Term Camp. The Camp consisted of Multisports each morning, Basketball Monday and Friday, football Tuesday and Thursday and an NBA workshop after Multisports on Wednesday afternoon.
We had 70 young people join our sessions across the week with 259 attendances. Leanne, one of the members on our team, helped in offering free breakfast as part of our programme plan.
QPA were our main delivery partners providing excellent coaching by Nelson in our football and multisport sessions, which consisted of fun games, dodgeball, netball and fitness.
A quote from our partner, Nelson: “We had a great week on camp this February! The young people went through a series of fun competitive games and challenges during our multi sports section, including taking on our fitness circuit that really got their blood pumping! We had some standout teamwork, performance and sportsmanship across our dodgeball and netball sessions too.
“Our popular football camp was back, where we ran a tournament from the get-go – that meant 4 hours of competitive games for all our young people! The young people on camp were amazing throughout, and we couldn’t have done this without them.
“Thank you and see you in April!”
Our basketball delivery was another popular offer with coaches Benji and Tyrell putting the young people through their paces on the Regal Court, learning a range of skills and gaining more competitive games and experience under their belts.
Lastly, our own Basketball Development Officer Marvin, hosted the 2nd NBA workshop taking on some financial literacy tasks. With a focus on top NBA players LeBron James and Kobe Bryant, the young people were tasked in creating budgets based on their salary.
Below are some quotes from parents whose children that attended:
“They all loved it. It is very very important for such activities to continue as it keeps the kids away from gadgets and allows them to have proper interaction with others”. – Parent
“Loved playing netball and touch rugby and dodgeball. Said the coaches were really fun”. – Parent
BPT said ‘I am very happy with how the camps went over the February Half term.
“This was my first experience of the camps here at BPT and I am very happy with the number of young people we have had on site taking part in physical activity.
“I want to say a huge thank you to QPA, Benji and Tyrell for their excellent delivery over the week, as well as our staff and volunteers here at BPT who are essential in the smooth running of these camps.”
We will be running Easter Holiday Camps from the 2nd – 12th April so stay tuned for the future! Please keep an eye on our website and socials for more of what is to come, or feel free to contact us at community@blackprincetrust.org.uk for more information!
