Schools strategy

Schools Strategy

There are statutory programmes of study for physical education at key stages 1 to 4 (Ages 5-16)and schools must follow these. There is no specific amount of time that schools must provide, but 2 hours per week is recommended (although not statutory).

Aims

The national curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • Develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
  • Are physically active for sustained periods of time
  • Engage in competitive sports and activities
  • Lead healthy, active lives
Black Prince Trust has had major impact on the students at Oasis Academy South Bank. As a School with very limited sporting facilities, the Black Prince site enables us to teach a broader Curriculum and gives our students access to a full-size basketball court, as well as excellent boxing facilities. Staff are always eager to help, well organised and build excellent relationships with both staff and students.- James Trueman – Head of PE Department, Oasis Academy South Bank
Black Prince Trust is a great facility - the staff are passionate, knowledgeable and hardworking, they make everyone feel welcome. The environment enables activities to be is safe, purposeful and enjoyable- Joel Kerr – Head of School, Octavia House Independent Therapeutic School

How can the Black Prince Trust help?

At the Black Prince Trust Community hub, we believe that a high-quality physical education curriculum within schools inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in sport at a level they enjoy and that it should provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. The geographical of the The Hub setting and facilities allow us to have a direct impact on the physical education offer to Lambeth students across all key stages alongside delivering social outcomes.
